Argentium Silver

I've been dabbling in metalsmithing at a studio in Ravenswood called Lillstreet. I can't recommend it highly enough! If you're interested in metals, ceramics, painting, etc - it's the place to be.

I recently enrolled in my fourth course, Argentium Silver. Before this I have almost exclusively taken courses that deal with copper and brass.

Argentium is a patented silver alloy similar to sterling that increases the silver content and replaces some of the copper with germanium. It's a bit more expensive but allows you to fuse together pieces of argentium without the use of a messy flux and solder chip. It's a miracle metal frankly.

One of my first projects was to fuse a broken heart onto an argentium band. The broken heart is probably meaningful but is actually the result of me accidentally cutting a traditional heart in half.

I was able to fuse the band, pieces of the heart together, and then the heart onto the band all without any flux or solder chip - just a torch and love.
